St. Winefride's School is a co-educational, Voluntary Aided Catholic School for 3-11 year old pupils including a 26/26 part-time Nursery. It was founded by the Catholic Church to provide education for children of Catholic families. St. Winefride's Catholic Primary School is conducted by its Governing Body as part of the Catholic Church in accordance with its trust deed and instrument of government, and seeks at all times to be a witness to Jesus Christ. It is located in Wibsey close to Bradford in West Yorkshire. The school was built in 1956. At that time there were seven classes and a library. In l968 four more classes were built. In 1995 three more classes were built when the school changed from a First School (3-10) to a Primary School (3-11). In 2000 an ICT Suite was built onto the lower KS2 corridor. We have a grassy field and good playgrounds. The Parish Church is across the road and all children experience the prayer and liturgy of the Church throughout the year. In 2005 a small P.E. store was built onto the corner of the hall. St Winefride's Church is just across the road and the school regularly joins the Parish in celebrating Mass and other liturgies.School starts at 8.55a.m. but children are allowed into classrooms from 8.45a.m. onwards. If the weather is bad the children are usually able to wait on the K.S.2. bottom corridor until 8.45a.m. Please do not go into any classrooms or the Nursery before 8.45a.m. The morning session ends at 12.15p.m. The afternoon session starts at 1.15p.m. The school day ends at 3.30p.m. We welcome and enjoy having parents in school working under the direction of the class teacher and new helpers are always welcome. Parent consultation evenings are held twice a year allowing parents to look at their children's work, and talk to the class teacher. An end of year report on each child is sent home. The Governors' Annual General Meeting gives parents the opportunity to find out about new or revised policies, or of any changes taking place in school. Every parent is automatically a member of the St Winefride's Association. Meetings are held on a regular basis and a variety of social and fund raising events are organised. It is hoped that as many parents as possible will support and involve themselves in these activities. Parents may ask to see the various documents sent to the school by the DfES or the 'Complaints Procedure'. You may also ask to see the records kept on your children or schemes of work relating to any curriculum area. Any arrangements for this should be made through Mrs. O'Connor - Acting Headteacher. In our school we try to provide a welcoming, caring, happy, safe environment in which each child will-play an important part. We encourage our children to develop self-respect and a respect for others. The class teacher is initially responsible for the care of each child and will if necessary consult a senior member of staff and/or the head teacher, and parents will be informed if problems arise. Our staff are always ready to listen and help if they can.Unauthorised absences last year were less than 1 percent. Authorised absences were 4 percent. The total number of pupils of compulsory school age on roll was 405
